AIGA Professional Association


The AIGA is the oldest design association; founded in 1914 it started out as “The American Institute of graphic art. The association has more than 22,000 members in 66 chapters. The association brings an enormous amount of inspiration and benefits to all of its members. AIGA also contributes to the world of design and give non-members opportunities for advancement by allowing them to compete in competitions sponsored by the association. These competitions allow designers to get their work recognized in the design industry. AIGA has programs that help designers build their presents within the design industry. AIGA’s said mission is to advance designing as a professional craft strategic tool and vital culture force. This mission affects the design world by setting the guidelines of excellence for designers abroad. Members are thus given resources and are able to network, building great business relationships, while adding to their design portfolio. The graphic industry depends on exposure wherein this association thrives on making their membership body a vital culture force. Therefore, I found that the benefits out weights the cost of the member ship fees, the members are allowed to progress within the design worlds. They are identified as valued designers because of the association and receive outstanding leads within the industry.

They sponsor student groups to keep members abreast on skills. This is an added benefit that keeps the members tight nit and working in the design field. In addition as an AIGA member one would be allowed to participate in the health care plan for designers as well as take advantage of software discounts and much more. AIGA is important to the industry because of its professional standards of design. The unlimited information that members receive is phenomenal. The event and competitions are nationwide and the members are also from all over the world. Therefore, the network possibilities are endless. The guidelines set by this association are high and impact and motivate designer to strive for excellence in the field and in all areas of their professional career. Moreover, after researching AIGA association, I found that the benefits would be a great tool for my design advancement. AIGA has given me an abundance of information in my related field.
