Is it a Product or Service?

Do you agree that music is not a product?
In my opinion music is the vehicle that captures the audiences attention. The bigger picture is that many artists believe that their music is the product. In most case artist fail to realize that, music is not the product. The Webster dictionary has defined Product as: an article or substance that is manufactured or refined for sale. The best way to explain a product is a single tangible thing that can be owned.  Digital downloading has proven that people are able to separate the content from the product. The function has lead to an uncontrollable proliferation of the content. Artist must understand and value the challenges that digital downloading offers by embracing the flexibility given to their business. Music in it self is not the same thing as the product, until it materializes into a CD.

Moreover, the financial reward is the purpose; to rethinks and find creative ways to add value and sale music. Fan – Centrism, separates product and content. This concept is proven fact, that people only see things as product if it has personal value. The Internet has brought the world to a position of convenience. Products are only valuable if there is a need. The concept is to give the customers what they want and value. Music can never be the product, because not all music appeals to all audiences. The product is the posters and merchandise items that first add value to the music.  Once the music is packaged than it is an added valued for consumer. No item can be described as a product until a demand for the product has developed. Music is a service to its customers and not a product that is tangible until there becomes a need.
